Overview

Flipick platform is integrated with a comprehensive assessment engine. Authoring and workflow tools help to build question banks; review cycles with different stakeholders, different question types, exam pattern blueprints and build practice, mock exam and graded exam based assessments

Highlights

Faculty can setup the exam paper using available question banks, upload their own set of questions or create them manually
Exam paper can be generated automatically using a configurable exam pattern. This contains the number of questions, marks, weightage by difficulty levels and number of questions by unit or chapter
Multiple question types
Different types of assessments can be provided, including practice tests, mock tests and graded exams (summative assessments)
Practice tests can be set at the unit, chapter or topic levels

Features to prevent cheating, Internet and electricity failure

Exams conducted on Flipick Platform are designed with in-built proctoring for prevention of cheating
When the student is appearing for an exam, he is given a strong message if he open another window or tab. If the student persists after the message, he will automatically exit the exam
In case of an Internet failure of loss of electricity, the student can resume when Internet re-connects or the electricity is restored. The platform tracks the number of questions answered and time spent. However, the student gets a new set of questions on resumption. This avoids the possibility of the student gathering answers during the break
All the rules of failure and resumption are configurable

How does Flipick handle concurrent logins at large scale

The server farms hosting the summative exams are very highly scalable. There are multiple clusters of servers and each cluster is configured with independent and multiple application servers. Database and content servers are configured with high specifications to handle the peak load during login. Each cluster is also designed with load balanced servers and elastic computing to automatically add units as the load increases.

Standard self service assessment solutions are not designed for such a scale.

Assessment Types

Flipick platform supports the following assessment types

Practice Tests These tests can be built on a selected number of topics from the curriculum. There is no timer attached to complete the test.
Mock Exam Tests Assessments are used to practice for competitive entrance exams for arts, science, commerce, pre-engineering and medicine. Each of these exams has a pattern with number of sections, questions in each section, marks for correct and wrong answers, complexity levels and spread of questions across topics from the curriculum. Students practice for such mock tests with the same user experience as in the final exam
Graded Exams These are actual exams being conducted on the Flipick platform. They are built using question banks and exam patterns. The marks are updated in the student grade book in the platform. Examples of these exams include institute level tests, university exams, corporate assessments as well as bank professionals appearing for their certification exams. One of the largest upcoming exam is for banking professionals where 200,000 users will appear in a year in batches of 10,000

It is possible to configure the system to allow a student to take the test on a different day in case of absence on the day the test was scheduled

Marking System

Marks can be allocated to a question in a configurable manner. There are options for marks for a correct answer, negative marks for wrong answer and weighted marks for questions that can have multiple answer choices

Results of the assessment

The instructor has controls on the manner and time at which the assessment results are declared.

For practice test, the answers can be given at the submission of each question or provided at the end of the test. Other result parameters could include

Marks and scores in % at each section and over all exam level
Correct answers
Solution for the problem
Video solution for the problem

For mock tests and exam grade tests, it is possible to

Schedule the results – do not provide results, provide immediately after the assessment or specific number of days after the assessment
Provide marks, % score, percentile and rank

Exam Pattern Template

Competitive and internal exam may have a specific pattern. This could include

Number of sections
Questions in each section
Criteria to select questions. Define the number of questions in a topic and their complexity levels. For example, the pattern may define to pick up 6 questions from a topic – 1 highly complex at 5 marks, 2 medium level of complexity at 2 marks each and 2 low complexity at 1 mark each
The marking system defined in the exam pattern overrides the marking provided with the questions in the Question Bank

The assessment is dynamically created based on the exam pattern

Analytics

Assessment analytics can be provided at the student level, institute level or across institutes

Scores. Results of an assessment including score, percentage, rank or percentile
Areas of strength and weakness. At the student level or across students for an assessment, the analytics provides areas of strength and weaknesses. For each topic, the analytics can provide the % of students who have performed well, average or below average
Performance at individual question level. For each question, the % of students who have answered correct
Attendance records. Student who were present or absent for scheduled assessment
