What is Variable Video Production (VVP)?
Variable Video Production (VVP) is a technique where a single master video film is rendered into thousands of unique, personalised versions — each containing different data values such as a viewer’s name, store address, renewal date, local offer, language or product — without re-recording or re-rendering the underlying footage. Each variant is delivered via a unique authenticated link, and viewing behaviour (completion, drop-off, CTA clicks) is tracked per recipient. VVP lets brands send one message at scale while making every viewer feel it was produced for them alone.
One film. Thousands of recipients. Every version unique.
Four steps from brief to every inbox.
VVP separates the expensive, creative step (producing the master film) from the inexpensive, data-driven step (producing variants from it). The master is rendered once at full quality using Flipick’s AI studio pipeline. Every variant is then generated by overlaying personalised data fields — names, prices, addresses, languages — on top of that fixed master, without touching the underlying footage. This keeps variant cost at roughly 1–5% of the master’s cost, even at 10,000+ recipients.
Brief and screenplay
Define the campaign objective and the data fields each recipient will see. Flipick’s AI converts the brief into a screenplay and storyboard for approval.
Render the master film
The approved storyboard becomes a studio-grade AI film — consistent characters, branded overlays, voiceover. This is the single paid AI render.
Generate variants from data
Upload your data file (CSV or API feed). Each row becomes one variant: name, store, offer, language, price — composited on the master on Flipick’s servers.
Distribute and track
Each recipient gets a unique authenticated link. Flipick tracks who watched, for how long, and whether they clicked the CTA — per viewer, not per campaign.
Industries that send the same message to many people differently.
Any organisation that communicates a repeated message to a list of named recipients — where the message needs something specific to each person to land — is a natural fit for VVP.
Retail & FMCG
Use case: per-store promotional video. A retailer with 200 stores sends one festive offer video. Each store’s variant shows that store’s name, address, opening hours and local pricing — produced from a single master in minutes. No per-store agency brief needed.
See VVP for Indian retail →Automotive Dealer Groups
Use case: rooftop-level offer video. A dealer group runs a Labor Day promotion. Each rooftop gets its own video with its store name, address, offer details and contact number — generated from the group-level brief in an afternoon. No per-dealership production needed.
See VVP for dealer groups →BFSI & Insurance
Use case: policy renewal and onboarding. An insurer sends 50,000 renewal reminders. Each video addresses the policyholder by name, shows their policy number, renewal date and specific plan details — authenticated so only that recipient can open it. Completion is tracked per policy.
See VVP live demo →Enterprise L&D
Use case: role-specific compliance training. An L&D team sends the same compliance module to every employee — but each video addresses the learner by name and references their role, department and jurisdiction. Completion is tracked per learner, not per cohort.
See AI Video for L&D →Telecom & Utilities
Use case: plan upgrade and renewal. A telecom operator sends 100,000 personalised upgrade videos. Each shows the customer’s current plan, the upgrade offer and the deadline — tailored by region, usage tier and language. Click-throughs are tracked per subscriber.
See VVP for communications →Marketing & Performance
Use case: account-based marketing (ABM). A B2B marketing team sends prospect-specific videos. Each video mentions the prospect’s company name, industry pain point and a tailored offer — making cold outreach feel like a bespoke pitch. Reply rates typically outperform email-only sequences by 3–5×.
See the AI Video Platform →Why not just produce a version for each recipient?
The short answer: cost and speed. Traditional personalised video — where each variant is generated individually by an AI engine — works for small lists but becomes uneconomical at hundreds or thousands of recipients. VVP solves this with a fundamentally different architecture.
Generate a new video for every person
- Each recipient gets a fresh AI generation
- Generation cost multiplies with list size
- Quality and character consistency vary between runs
- Render time scales linearly — 1,000 recipients = 1,000 renders
- No guaranteed brand consistency across variants
- Practical ceiling: tens or low hundreds of recipients
Render once, compose thousands of times
- One studio-grade master film, rendered once
- Each variant composites data over the fixed master — no re-rendering
- Identical characters, lighting and brand consistency across all variants
- Variant generation time: minutes per batch regardless of list size
- Per-variant cost: roughly 1–5% of the master’s cost
- Practical ceiling: unlimited. 1 or 1,000,000 recipients, same architecture
Not all “personalised video” is the same.
Several tools claim personalised video. VVP as Flipick implements it is a specific, production-grade technique — not a low-quality name-insertion feature bolted onto existing video tools.
Simple name-insertion tools
Overlay a first name on a generic template. No real production value. Every recipient sees the same footage with a text field swapped. Works for birthday cards; doesn’t work for financial services, automotive or regulated-industry communications where the content itself must differ per recipient.
Flipick VVP
Overlay any data — names, addresses, prices, dates, languages, product codes — on a studio-grade, brand-approved master film. Authenticated delivery (only the intended recipient opens the video). Per-recipient tracking of completion, drop-off and CTA. Built for regulated industries, enterprise L&D and high-stakes customer communications.
AI video re-generators (Synthesia, HeyGen per-variant)
Re-run the AI generation engine for each variant. Produces fresh video per recipient but at full AI render cost each time. Character consistency and brand fidelity degrade across runs. Economically viable for small lists (<50), not for thousands of recipients.
What makes Flipick VVP different
Flipick is the only platform that covers the full pipeline: Create (brief → screenplay → storyboard → master film), Distribute (VVP variant generation → authenticated delivery), and Prove (per-recipient authenticated tracking, completion, CTA analytics). No other tool does all three in one workflow.
What people ask about VVP.
What is Variable Video Production (VVP)?
Variable Video Production (VVP) is a technique where a single master video is rendered into thousands of unique, personalised versions — each containing different data values such as a viewer’s name, store address, renewal date, local offer, language or product — without re-recording or re-rendering the underlying footage. Flipick delivers each version via a unique authenticated link so only the intended recipient can open it, and viewing behaviour (completion, drop-off, CTA clicks) is tracked individually.
How is VVP different from traditional personalised video?
Traditional personalised video tools render a separate AI-generated video for every recipient — which is slow and expensive at scale. Flipick’s VVP renders one studio-grade master film once (at full AI render cost), then produces every variant by compositing data overlays and voice swaps on top of that master at a small fraction of the original cost. At 1,000 recipients, the per-video cost for a VVP variant is roughly 1–5% of the master’s cost.
What can be personalised in a VVP video?
Anything that can be expressed as a data field: the viewer’s name, account number or policy ID; store name, address and phone number; current offer price or expiry date; vehicle make, model and colour; language of narration and on-screen text; and any brand overlay such as a logo, CTA button or legal disclaimer. Fields are defined in a data file (CSV or API feed) and each row becomes one variant.
Which industries use Variable Video Production?
VVP is widely used in retail (per-store promotional videos), automotive (dealer co-op campaigns and rooftop-level offer videos), BFSI (policy renewal reminders, loan disbursement notifications and KYC onboarding), telecom (personalised plan upgrade or renewal videos), and enterprise L&D (role-specific onboarding and compliance training delivered to each learner’s inbox).
How long does it take to produce a VVP campaign?
The master film follows Flipick’s standard AI video workflow: brief to approved screenplay and storyboard (same day), rendering the master film (hours). Variant generation for any number of recipients takes minutes per batch. A full VVP campaign — master plus 1,000 variants — typically goes from brief to distribution-ready in 5–7 business days.
Can VVP videos be tracked?
Yes. Every VVP variant is delivered via a unique authenticated link tied to a named recipient. Flipick tracks who opened the video, how far they watched, whether they clicked the CTA, and from which device — per recipient, not just in aggregate. This audit-ready data is available for compliance-grade reporting in regulated industries.
Is VVP the same as “virtual video production”?
No. “Virtual video production” refers to using LED walls or CGI environments as physical production backdrops — a filmmaking technique. Variable Video Production (VVP) is a post-production and distribution technology: it takes a finished master film and produces thousands of data-driven personalised variants from it. The two terms describe different things in different industries.
